In a move to revolutionalize the compressor industry, Atlas Copco today launched their latest compressor design, the VSD+ (Variable Speed Drive) at the Ole Sereni hotel in Nairobi. The event was highly attended by large industry players whom the new machine seems to target.
The VSD+ is able to save energy up to 50% thanks to the new technology implored in making it unlike the normal ones that save up to 70%.The compressor comes with the innovative design of the Permanent Magnet (iPM) motor which allows for an average cut of 37% in the lifecycle of the compressor.
The compressor which is oil cooled is also able to start or stop under full system pressure without the need to unload with special VSD+ motor; it follows the air demand by automatically adjusting the motor speed.
Atlas Copco considers this a game changer though they fault energy costs in Kenya which greatly challenges industries’-their main clients- competitiveness.
Atlas Copco has been in operation since 1936 and has their products selling all over the world. They offer repairing and data analysis services for their clients. Responding to a question asked by one of the attendee, a representative of Atlas Copco pointed that they, in considerable cases, buy back old compressors from clients. They then service them and use them as standby compressors.
The firm seeks to release bigger compressors in the future.
