The three-year the $7 billion Power Africa initiative will send Ksh173.2 million ($2 million) to Kenya and Nigeria, marking the two countries the first to be awarded in the off-grid energy challenge.
There are five grants of up to KSh8.66 million ($100,000) of which each will be presented to African companies and organizations providing off-grid energy solutions that use renewable energy. The requests for proposals from African entrepreneurs, companies, and purchasers of innovative off-grid solutions are open until October 16.
The Power Africa project launched in June this year, aims at bringing 10,000MW of electricity to sub-Saharan Africa that will see to it that Kenya adds 400 Megawatts of energy. (Read also: Kenya’s share in the Obama’s Power Africa project).
