LOT A AND LOT B

 

The Masinga- Kitui water supply and sanitation project was a two year contract, for both Lot A and Lot B that started in earnest on 23rd October 2012 after the award of the contract on 20th September, 2012. The contract was however not completed in the specified period and the contractor was given an extension of six months. The project is now expected to end on 22nd April 2015.

The construction of the Masinga Kitui water supply and sanitation project was supposed to last for twenty four months. The contract was awarded on 20th September, 2012 and the effective date of contract is 23rd October 2012 and the contract was expected to end on 22nd October 2014 but it will now end on 22nd April 2015.

The value of contract for Lot A is Kshs 1,064,992,726.00 while the value of the contract for Lot B is Kshs1, 136,909,793.22. In the month of October 2014, the implementation of the Masinga Kitui Water and Sanitation project continued with the planned work at both Lot A and Lot B. The Progress of work for Lot B has significantly improved and it has now reached over 90%. 

Progress of Works Lot A

The contract for Lot A has a value of Kshs 1,064,992,726.00. The work done for Lot A is now Kshs 842,056,881.72 which accounts for 79.1% of the total contract sum.

The activities undertaken for the month of October 2014 covered the following:

i)Preliminary and General

ii)Testing of Kwamuthumba – Katheka Pipeline

iii)Testing of the Rising Main to Kwamuthumba

iv)Construction of filters

v)Construction of Diversion.

vi)Construction of flocculation basin channel.

vii)Construction of sedimentation tank.

viii) Construction of intake.

ix)Electromechanical works.

Preliminary and General

Preliminary and general for lot A are in place. The only outstanding items are those that are supposed to run up to the end of the project completion. The expenses for the preliminary and general now amount to Kshs. 64,931,571.61 Which represent 89% of the total work done.

Flocculation Basin

The construction of flocculation basin is complete except for disinfecting the structure and placing of penstocks. The construction cost is now Kshs 13,675,368.71 that is equivalent to 86% of its estimated cost while the actual work done reaches 98%.                      

Sedimentation Tank

The contractor has finalized construction of the sedimentation tank. The work done so far on the sedimentation tank is worth Kshs 30,644,586.76, which is 72% of the estimated cost of the sedimentation tank while the actual work done is over 98%.

Construction of filters

The construction works for the filter and the filter gallery is complete. The total cost of work done on the filter amount to Kshs. 24,353,510.66, which represent 52% of the total estimated cost while the actual work done reaches 75%.

Treated Water Rising Main To Kwamuthumba

 

The construction of treated water rising main from Masinga to Kwamuthumba is almost complete. The value of work done on the pipeline including the delivered pipes is valued at Kshs. 188,987,050.14 which is about 92% of the pipeline work. The actual work done so far reaches 95%.

Katheka 3000m3 Tank

The construction of Katheka 3000m3 tanks is complete. The work done so far is worth Kshs. 53,240543.23 that is equivalent to about 88 % of the contract value. However, the percentage of actual work done is 97%. The tank passed the water test.              

Construction of the Kwamuthumba Katheka Pipeline

The construction of the Kwamuthumba – Katheka pipeline is complete. The contractor is constructing chambers to install air valves and washout connections. Air valve and washout connections. The amount of work done is now worthKshs.302, 772,875.05 that represents 93% of the total estimated cost of the pipeline while the actual progress reaches 96%. 

Kwamuthumba 3000m3 Tank

The construction of the Kwamuthumba tank is complete. The amount of work done has reached Kshs 75,151,561.16 that is 87% of the total estimated cost. The actual progress reaches 95%. 

Diversion to Kwamuthumba Tank

The construction of Diversion to Kwamuthumba is almost complete. The amount of work done so far is worth Kshs 40,641,849.52, which represents 87% of the estimated cost of the diversion. The actual progress of work now reaches 95%. 

Raw Water Main

The Contractor delivered pipes for the raw water-pumping main to the site. The payment in Kshs reached to 17,422,593.30, which is 59% of the estimated cost. 

Intake Works

The contractor is locating the intake sit. The components of the floating intake have arrived. The amount paid is Kshs 11,884,956.34, which is 22% of the estimated cost.

Progress of Work Lot B

The contract for Lot B has a value of Kshs 1,136,909,793.22.  The modification in the design of the sewage treatment ponds has led to the introduction of sewage pumping and reduction in length of the trunk sewers. The work done for Lot B up to the end of October is worth Kshs 983,106,553.20, which in overall accounts for 86% of the total contract sum while the actual work reaches 97%.

x)Pump House, Pumping Mains and Line B Laterals

xii)Construction of 150m3 DC’s elevated tank.

Preliminary and General

Preliminary and general for lot B are in place. The only outstanding items are those that are supposed to run up to the end of the project completion. The expenses for the preliminary and general now stand at KShs 15,395,790.25 this represents 82% of the total amount.

 

Kwangindu 1500m3 Tanks

The construction of kwangindu tank is complete. The only outstanding work is fencing. The work done so far for the tank is worth Kshs 51,089,310.06 that is approximately 90% of the total contract sum for the tank while the actual work done reached 99%. 

Katheka-Kwangindu Pipeline

The construction of Katheka- Kwangindu pipeline is complete. The outstanding work is sterilization the pipeline The work done on the pipeline is now worth Kshs 288,375,070.60 and the estimated cost is Kshs 296,699,833.50 The work done is 107% of the contracted sum while the actual work done reaches 99%.  

Reticulation System

The work done so far on the reticulation system is worth 135,773,185.04 which is 67% while the actual work done reaches 90%.

Construction of Sewer Line A

The construction of sewer line A and its branches is almost complete . The work done so far is worth Kshs 48,142,429.93, which is 69% while the actual work done is 95%.

Construction of Sewer line B

Construction of sewer line B is complete .The outstanding works are placing of step irons in manholes and sewer flow test. The amount of work done for the main line and its branch worth Kshs 18,888,915.90, which is 82% of the estimated, contracted work while the actual progress of works reaches 99%. 

Construction of Sewer line C

The construction of sewer line C and its branches is almost complete. The outstanding works are; placing of step irons in the manholes, sewer flow test, and a small section of sewer line C-80 within the CBD.The work done so far is valued at Kshs 59,243,345.92, which is about 83% of the estimated sewer line cost while the actual progress now reaches 98%

Waste Water Treatment Works

The construction of wastewater treatment works is complete. The work done so far on sewerage ponds is valued at Kshs 80,655,210.68 that is about 72% of the estimated cost for wastewater treatment works, while the actual work done reach 99%.                    

Pump House, Pumping Mains and Line B Laterals

The contractor has finalized constructing the super structures and generator houses in the two pumping stations. Value of work done kshs 17,485,307.78, which is 75% of the estimated cost while the actual progress reaches 99%. The construction of pumping mains is almost complete; only final touches and testing is remaining. Value of work done is kshs 36,977,126.56, which is 102 % of the estimated cost while the actual progress reaches 99%.

The construction of the branches of line B is almost complete. The only work remaining is testing of manholes and placing of steel iron. The value of work done on the branches of line B reached kshs 33,168,958.10 which 100% of the estimated costs while the actual progress is 99%. Pumps and generators have cost Kshs 87,847,606, which is 97% of the estimated cost. 

Trunk Sewer

 

The amount of work done is Kshs 19,707,035.48, which represents 24% of the estimated cost. The actual progress however is 97%.

Elevated tank at DC’s Compound

The amount of work done is Kshs 2,976,641.33, which represents 47% of the estimated cost. The actual progress however is 85%.
