The Analogue switch-off deadline for Nairobi and its environs remains 13th December 2013. The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, Dr. Fred Matiang’i has confirmed in a statement. The capital’s environs to be affected are Kiambu, Ngong, Rongai, Kitengela, Isinya, Athi River, part of Machakos County, Thika and Githunguri.

Dr. Matiangi’s response was with effects to the impression created last week that the deadline had been moved to June 2014. According to the CS, 30th June 2014 marks the analogue switch-off deadline for all regions in Kenya excluding Mombasa, Malindi, Nyeri, Meru, Kisumu, Webuye, Kisii, Nakuru and Eldoret whose deadline is set for 30th March 2014.

He also assured the governments’ efforts put in place to ensure a smooth migration and that the urgency to migrate was with effort to meet the June 2015 global deadline of the move. “The digital signal footprint in the country now stands at 80% of the current analogue signal area,” said Dr. Matiang’i.

Recently, Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) launched an awareness campaign to ensure that consumers in the country are informed and educated about the digital migration and the benefits aligned to it.
