Mitsubishi Motors Corp (7211.T) said it is recalling over 6,000 Outlander SUV plug-in hybrids in Japan because of three software programming glitches, in the model’s third recall since going on sale in January last year. The 6,517 cars were built between January and November at the company’s Okazaki plant in central Japan, Mitsubishi said in a statement on Friday. The vehicles may fail to start because of a software bug in the cell monitoring unit which could leave parked cars consuming lithium-ion battery power, Mitsubishi said. @bbc

Officials at Kenya’s troubled oil refinery have asked Parliament to investigate the high cost of petroleum products despite the removal of refinery charges from the monthly pricing. In a letter to the Public Investments Committee, Kenya Petroleum Refineries Ltd notes that its products are more expensive by Sh1.5 a litre than direct imports but questions the current prices increases since December. “We expected the fuel prices to be cheaper by Sh10 a litre. This has not happened despite other factors like the international crude price and exchange rates remaining largely unchanged,” reads the letter. @dailynation

Chinese investors are planning to unveil a Sh65 billion city near Nairobi with skyscrapers and infrastructure that they say will match the splendour of Dubai. The grand plan that involves at least 100 Asian investors is being fine-tuned ahead of an anticipated visit to Kenya by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang early next month; actual construction may begin later in the year. The premier is also expected to tour Nigeria, Angola and Ethiopia in what is seen as an attempt to further strengthen the relationship between China and Africa.
