Civil works at the power house at Sang’oro stood 30 % at the end of January even after the placement of concrete on the generator. The contract was awarded to Chinese contractor Sinohydro Corporation Ltd in September 2006. The Government of Japan is funding the project through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency to the tine of Sh3.65 billion. The consultant is Nippon Koei of Japan.
The Sang’oro Power Project is an extension of the Sondu-Miriu project. It utilizes the available discharge of 39.8 cubic meters per second of water from the Sondu-Miriu station and a head of 62.2 metresbetween the Sondu-Miriu project and the Sondu River. When complete Sang’oro will generate 21.2 megawatts to add to the 50 MW generated at Sondu power station.
