Survey works for a 2nd Bridge at the North Coast

A second bridge is set to be constructed soon at the North Coast. The bridge is set to link Mombasa Island to the mainland North Coast. The bridge project is however in survey stages according to Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) who are in charge of the project.

“We have sent surveyors who are working to come up with the bridge design and all other details “said Mr.Cheboi during an interview with Kenya Engineer.

The whole project will be funded by the government of Kenya. He added that it was not possible to estimate how much the bridge would cost until the survey was complete and only then would the contracts be advertised. The definite date details will also be given after the survey is complete. The authority has however invited bids for designs of the proposed bridge.

The bridge opens into Malindi Road that leads to Kilifi, Malindi and Lamu which are popular tourist destinations. It will help ease congestion and traffic flow to the mainland via the Nyali Bridge which is currently the only permanent link between the island and the mainland.
