By Daisy Gakuu The Kenya-Ethiopia power project is currently experiencing a set-back due to delays to formalize the sponsorship deal with the French Development Agency (AFD). With the deadline in June, the approval of the loan statement by AFD is crucial. The 2000megawatts generating project is said to amount to KSh106 billion ($1.26 billion) according to the African Development Bank (AfDB) regional director Gabriel Negatu who has stipulated contributions from the various donors as follows: $340million from the AfDB, $680 million from the World Bank, $80 million from the AFD, $32 million from Ethiopia and $88 million from Kenya. World Bank and AfDB signed the loan statement in July and September approving funds of $684 million and 348$ million respectively. AFD stands as the only sponsor with whom the deal is not sealed.
