Kenya has partnered with international agencies to set up a climate innovation center. The Kenya Climate Innovation Center (CIC), first of its kind in Kenya, will support local innovators ,entrepreneurs and Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) with solutions .

” Economies around the world are re-orientating towards low-carbon, green growth paths. Technology, and its deployment and diffusion, is acknowledged as a key factor in efforts to mitigate and adapt to the current and future impacts of climate change.”, says InfoDev in a statement on their website adding “Therefore, accelerating innovation and technology transfer is in global focus. As an economic hub of East Africa, Kenya is a key stakeholder in this effort.”

The center, set up in the early fourth-quarter of this year, offers incubation, capacity building services and financing to Kenyan entrepreneurs and SMEs who are developing innovative climate mitigation and adaptation solutions.

CIC is highly connected to the country’s Vision 2030 with the role of improving livelihoods through climate mitigation and adaptation technologies. Application of clean technology is considered vital in achieving the country’s Vision 2030.

In joined working with the private sector,CIC will offer opportunities to expand the country’s agriculture, energy, transport, health and water infrastructure to serve the needs of the growing population while improving living standards.
