Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), in partnership with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives and United Nations Industrial Organization (UNIDO) today launched the 2nd Kenya Manufacturing Summit and Expo that is set to run till 25th November.
The Manufacturing Expo provides a great platform not only to showcase what Kenya currently produces but also explore new possibilities.

Officiating the Expo, Industry and Trade CS, Adan Mohamed said, “With 75% of global trade involving manufacturing, this core sector is still the key to sustainable economic growth and employment opportunities for Kenyans. As such, government is keen to grow Kenya’s manufacturing output.

He added that this is a very important event to showcase what we do in Kenya. It has the capacity to show what we can do and what we should do.

Mohamed also pointed out that the aim of the government to grow Kenya’s manufacturing base is strategic and can only be implemented through collaboration.

The manufacturing sector is key to Kenya’s economic growth due to its potential to grow productive jobs and increase the purchasing power of consumers.

“In  efforts to achieve a cohesive nationhood, the growth of the manufacturing sector is dependent on the ability to compete in the global market so as to increase competitiveness in exports, job creation and driving industrialization,” said Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Chair-lady, Flora Mutahi.

Mutahi added that in every five years our economy takes a hit as everyone adopts a wait-and-see attitude and consequently, returning to business afterward is usually made much harder. This trend is not going to be sustainable if we are to achieve our Vision 2030.

KAM has put in place strategies & plans to build the capacity of the industry’s production, access to markets and job creation.
