The Government has received a grant of Sh2 billion from the Japanese Government. The funds will be used on augmentation of water supply system in Narok town (Sh1.14 billion) and rural water supply in Baringo County (Sh901 million).
The project for the expansion of water supply system in Narok involves the construction of facilities that will enhance the water supply system in the town.
Upon its completion the project will provide clean water to a population of about 60,000 people in Narok town and its environs.
The project for rural water supply in Baringo County involves drilling of boreholes Once completed the project will provide clean and portable water to rural population estimated at 80,000 as well as livestock in Baringo County.
The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich told reporters at his Treasury offices yesterday the two projects would contribute to the overall living conditions of the communities in these regions.
Rotich said Kenya’s co-operation with Japan has continued to grow with Japanese overall financial assistance to Kenya standing at Sh421 billion on accumulative basis.
“Today marks yet another milestone of our strong bilateral cooperation as evidenced by signing of the Exchange Notes,” he said.
