Today marks the official opening of this year’s Engineers International Conference happening in Kisumu. The conference was officially opened by the County Secretary of Kisumu on behalf of the governor, Jack N.Ranguma. In the governor’s speech read by the County Secretary, he appreciated the IEK team for choosing Kisumu as the venue for the conference this year. While inviting the chief guest, IEK chairman, Eng.J.M Riungu congratulated the conference organizing committee for an exemplary job. Eng.Riungu outlined the conference theme as “Innovative Engineering Solutions for Industrialization”. He further outlined the following as topics that would be tackled during the conference: Innovative Policy and Management; Innovative new methods for Engineering; Emerging Technologies; Financing and Commercializing Innovation; Organizational Innovation; Ethics in Innovation; Education; Mineral exploration, Mining and Processing Strategies; Industrialization strategies for vision 2030;Sustainable research strategies; Industrial Processes Performance, Control and Maintenance. The conference moved into session one soon after the opening ceremony. The session focused on Industrialization and was chaired by Eng.Henry Amange.It featured presentations from Eng Francis J.Gichanga on Industrialization of Counties and Vision 2030;Eng.Gichuki Muchiri on Impact of Bio-oil on Rural Energy Requirement; Eng.Daniel W.Kimiti on Outsourcing Strategy in County Government Industrialization; Eng.Collins Juma on Role of Nuclear Energy for Kenya’s Development Strategy. The conference resumes this afternoon with session two on Government and Education. It will be chaired by Prof.A.V. Otieno.
