IEK Chairman, Eng. Riungu, led Engineers in congratulating Eng. S.M Kamau for his nomination as a Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry Transport and Infrastructure. While addressing members of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya at the AGM, the IEK chairman thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for nominating Eng. Kamau and expressed confidence that the immediate former ERB chairman would go past the vetting exercise scheduled to take place today.
The chairman said that Eng. Kamau had given immense contribution to the Engineering industry in Kenya and that led the members in resolving that he(Eng. Kamau),receive this year’s Dr.Awour Award. It is customary for IEK to give out awards during the annual event.The Dr.Awour Award is given every year to individuals with outstanding contributions to engineering in Kenya.In last year’s conference,the then Minister for Roads,Mr.Franklin Bett was awarded honorary membership to the institution as away of appreciating his efforts as the minister for Roads. Eng. Kamau is among the 18 cabinet secretaries nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and whose vetting began yesterday. He has been in the Civil Service since 1981 and was seconded to Moi University in Eldoret for seven years between 1990 – 1998. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi and Master of Science in Engineering from the University of New Castle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom. He has been a PS for seven years giving him a good ground to kick start the assignment as the Cabinet Secretary of Transport and Infrastructure.
