Base Resources, the titanium miner in Kwale has today announced the departure of MV African Eagle from the company’s Likoni marine facility. The ship left the port loaded with 25,000 tonnes of ilmenite that will be shipped to China.

The ship loader -the firm says- operating under load for the first time performed to expectation and was able to reach its designed capacity of 1,000 tonnes per hour. Regular shipments of both ilmenite and rutile will now commence with shipments of each product scheduled for March.

Following the commissioning of the ilmenite and rutile circuits of the mineral separation plant (MSP) in December last year, the firm will now commence on zircon production. Wet zircon feed has now been taken through the zircon circuit of the MSP to produce on specification zircon product.

“Over the next several weeks, processing rates are planned to be ramped up and inventories of zircon built up ahead of the commencement of containerized sales in March”, says Base Resources in a statement.
