The Institution of Engineers of Kenya has called for papers for its 23rd IEK International Conference and symposium to be held on the 27th to 29th April 2016 in Mombasa County. The conference provides a podium for engineers and other stakeholders to share their experiences in the industry and offer a networking platform.
“This is the first announcement and call for papers for the 23rd IEK International Conference and symposium to be held at Leisure Lodge resort, Diani from 27th to 29th April 2016,” said IEK Chairman, Eng. Reuben Kosgei. The conference will be graced by distinguished keynote speakers in the industry and policy makers on the first day. The conference will further proceed with presentations from the attendants touching on a wide array of topics. The topics will based on the oil and gas industry, transport and infrastructure and other sectors.
Themed ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship Engineering’, the conference comes at a time when the country is experiencing a paradigm shift in mega projects such as the Standard Gauge Railway. It aims at highlighting how engineers can bring out their entrepreneurial skills in the industry. It further aims at nurturing an entrepreneurial acumen among the engineers. In addition, the conference aims at encouraging innovation among engineers especially the young professionals, so as to get a piece of cake of the mega projects in East Africa.The Annual General Meeting will take place on the second day in the evening. The engineers will also elect a new council for the year 2016/2017.
The conference will be wrapped up with an Industrial trip, the trip aims to enlighten the engineers on the major advancements taking place in the industry. The Institution first held the conference in 1992 , it has continuously held the conferences in order to enhance capacity building and professionalism in the industry.
