Sustainable Energy Conference

Last Updated 8 months ago by Kenya Engineer

The Sustainable Energy Conference 2025 kicks off on Wednesday 17th September, at Olkaria in Naivasha, Nakuru County, bringing together key players in Kenya’s energy sector to deliberate on the future of clean and reliable power. The three-day forum runs until Friday, 19th September.

The conference will focus on the integration of renewable energy sources into the national grid, a critical step in driving sustainable development and ensuring energy security for the country. Kenya already generates close to 90 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, mainly geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar, making it one of Africa’s leaders in green energy adoption.

Participants include government agencies, independent power producers, financiers, regulators, and civil society, all keen to chart pathways for strengthening grid infrastructure, scaling up investment, and adopting new technologies such as energy storage and smart grids.

The inaugural edition of the conference, held in 2024, underscored both Kenya’s progress and the challenges facing the sector—including financing, regulation, and capacity gaps. This year’s gathering is expected to build on those discussions with a sharper focus on resilient infrastructure and climate-smart solutions.

With Olkaria as the host site—home to some of the world’s largest geothermal fields—the conference is also a symbolic reminder of Kenya’s commitment to leveraging its natural resources to power sustainable growth.
