Technical auditors called for the Arusha– Voi road project

The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) together with the African Development Bank have called upon interested consultancy firms to bid for Technical Audit services for the Phase 1 of the Arusha –Holili/Taveta– Voi Road Corridor Development Project.

The funds loaned by the AfDB will be used for the upgrading of Mwatate –Taveta Road (A23) Road Section which is under the Phase 1 of the Arusha –Holili/Taveta– Voi Road Corridor Development Project. A section of the coffers has been set aside to cater for the consultancy services.

The selected consultancy firm to carry out the Technical Audit services will ensure that the proceeds of the loan are used economically, efficiently, and solely for the purposes they are intended.

According to earlier reports, out of the Sh19.5 billion given for the project, Kenya was to receive Sh9.4 billion while Tanzania was to get Sh10 billion.

“The project, which is expected to be completed by December 2018, is also jointly financed by the Governments of Kenya and Tanzania both contributing Sh1.3 billion and Sh1 billion respectively”, reports a local website.

The Arusha-Holili/Taveta-Voi Road is a transport corridor of the East African region that links the Northern Corridor at Voi to the Central Corridor across the common border at Holili/Taveta-Voi through Arusha, Babati to Dodoma and Singida.

The project will comprise civil works for the construction of the 42.4 km Arusha bypass and dualling the Sakina-Tengeru section of 14.1 km as well as the construction of two roadside amenities at Tengeru, one on either side of the dual carriageway in Tanzania.

It will also involve the upgrading of the 89 km Taveta-Mwatate portion and construction of the 12 km Taveta bypass and two roadside amenities, one each at Bura and Maktau along the Mwatate-Taveta Road in Kenya.

The road project sites its significance in how it will link the port of Mombasa to northern and north-western Tanzania and the landlocked countries of Rwanda, Burundi, DRC.
