ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru said Kenya has a huge potential for investment in technology applications and software developments and a wide range of others products and services where investors can grow their businesses.
Mr Mucheru who spoke at the Telposta Towers yesterday during discussions with the Swedish Ambassador to Kenya Johan Borgstam, said Kenya was among 38 African countries that have signed up for Smart Africa, an organisation aimed at creating a single digital market area in Africa.
Smart Africa comprise African governments supported by the private sector and international organisations that have signed up to propel Africa into the knowledge economy through development and implementation of Smart Country programs, youth innovations digital literacy and job creation.
Mr Johan Borgstam said there were many successful Swedish entrepreneurs keen on investment opportunities in Kenya ICT market. Mr Borgstam said the Swedish firms were ready to engage with local companies to explore available business opportunities.
He said Sweden was planning to send a delegation to Kenya this year to meet entrepreneurs and explore possible investment opportunities.
The Ambassador said, besides creating employment, the companies will allow for technology and knowledge transfer that would be beneficial to the country.
He commended Kenya for supporting Sweden when the country was vying for non-permanent seat on the 15-member UN Security Council this year. Mr Borgstam said Kenya supported Sweden for the position by lobbying its friends to
