South African based free online business directory firm, Mocality becomes the latest to shut down its operations in Kenya. This follows Dealfish who earlier shut their operations in the country.
Mocality who began operations in 2009 here in Kenya says there is slow uptake of its services. The shutdown will affect more than 100,000 business owners who were listing for free their business services and products on the site. The firm however says that coupons bought through the site would not be affected and that they are still valid whereas they would refund money for all paid up services such as advertisements.
This has raised questions on the sustainability of such ventures in a country whose population still prefers the traditional mode of transactions.
