The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has awarded a Chinese contractor Jianxi Zhongnei Engineering Construction Company a Sh13 billion contract to construct the 121 kilometre Marsabit-Turbi road.
The road, financed jointly by the government and the African Development Bank is part of the Isiolo-Motyale road that will ultimately connect Kenya to Ethiopia.
The road will be constructed to bitumen standard with a seven metre carriageway and will include construction of a one stop border post at Moyale. The construction period is 36 months.
Eng Meshack Kidenda, director general of KeNHA signed the contract on 11 October at KeNHA headquarters and Mr Lei Fei, senior secretary of Jiaanxi signed on behalf of his company.
