THWAKE MULTI-PURPOSE WATER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

SPECIFIC PROCUREMENT NOTICE

The Government of Kenya has applied for financing from the African Development Bank toward the cost of the Thwake Multi-Purpose Water Development Program – Phase 1-and intends to apply part of the agreed amount for this loan to payments under the contract for consulting services for design review and construction supervision of Thwake dam, and preparation of final designs of the hydropower works.

The services included under this project are checking the layout, design and stability of a 77 m tall by 1.6 km long rockfill dam, a 60 m tall intake tower, three 2,000 mm diameter penstocks plus two 1,200 mm diameter pipes for irrigation and water supply, a 50 m wide and 900 m long concrete spillway, an emergency fuse-plug spillway, site access roads, and minor works. The assignment will also include design services to upgrade a recently completed preliminary design of hydropower plant to final design.

The- Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources now invites qualified consultants to indicate their interest in providing the design and supervision services. Interested consultants must provide information showing their qualifications for undertaking these services (brochures, full description of dam design and supervision experience for dams of similar size, rockfill dam experience, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.). Consultants may constitute joint-ventures il they think that will enhance their technical qualifications.

Eligibility criteria, establishment of the short-list and the selection procedure shall be in accordance with the African Development Bank’s “Rules and Procedures for the use of Consultants” dated May 2008, Revised July 2012, which i: available on the Bank’s website at http://www.afdb.org
