Chinese firm, Anhui Construction Engineering Group will proceed to execute the tender awarded to them for building the new airport terminal after a period of surrounding controversy. The awarding of the tender, which saw the Kenya Airports Authority boss, Stephen Gichuki sent home has raised major issues with the Transport minister who had ordered for the cancellation of the tender.

This has however been overruled by the Public Procurement Oversight Authority ruling out that the minister has no basis in law to order the KAA to cancel the tender. They also argued that since KAA had already notified the firm, that would expose the government to paying penalties for damages.

The tender which after notification Anhui entered into joint venture with the China Euro International Company will see to the building of a new airport, Green Field terminal adjacent to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The project is however separate from the ongoing terminal IV expansion works and is designed to make Nairobi the continental aviation hub.
