Mining laws in the country are expected to take new turns after parliament approves a new law to regulate and streamline the mining industry. The law awaiting parliament approval will target private companies that evade paying tax among other mining concerns.

The law will not allow anyone to extract minerals without a licence, official office address and information about business income. The miner will then ensure their operations do not damage or endanger the lives of people.

In Kenya, The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources through Kenya Chamber of Mines (KCM) is responsible for mining. The Mining Act which dates back to 1940 has not had any reforms for a long time creating loopholes for companies and individuals to make profits without paying taxes.
