The Government of Kenya has applied for financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) towards the cost of the Outer Ring Road Improvement Project in Nairobi which is set for a timeline of 36 months. Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has invited sealed bids through International Competitive Bidding (ICB) from eligible bidders for the execution of the Project that closes on 16th December 2013 at noon.
It is intended that part of the profits of the loan, whose disbursement in respect of the signed contract will be subject to approval of financing by the Bank, will be applied to make eligible payments under the contract for the Project.
The works shall involve the Dualling and Improvement to bitumen standards of the existing road from Thika Road Super Highway (A2) at General Service Unit (GSU) Headquarters to the Junction of Eastern Bypass at Taj Shopping Mall-Embakasi. The total length of the project Road is approximately 13 Km comprising of Dual Carriageway with two lanes in each direction, Service Roads, Non-Motorized Traffic facilities, 2No. Interchanges and 6No. Grade Separated Junctions.
In June, the Resettlement and Action Plan was made public with recommendations that those affected be compensated before the works begin. (Read also: Road Upgrade to divert traffic from the capital)
