World leading information and communications technologies (ICT) solutions provider Huawei has finished its second round of registration of local students for its global ICT Competition 2018-2019 in Kenya.
The second round which concluded in July 2018 has seen more than 1000students from different universities including: JKUAT, Strathmore University, Multimedia University, Machakos University, Daystar University, etc.registered, adding up to a total number of 1121students from 13universities. Suky Su, Training and Certification Manager of Huawei Kenya, saidthat the registration will continue and Huawei aims to have around 3,000 ICT talents to be part of this program.
With the theme“Connection • Glory • Future”, the Huawei 2018-2019 ICT competition aims to provide a platform for global ICT talents to compete and communicate, promote high-quality ICT talent development, and drive the growth of a robust and sustainable ICT talent ecosystem.
The previous edition of Huawei ICT contest, held between 2016-2017, attracted 40,000 applicants from 800 universities in 32 countries globally while the 2018-2019 version is expected to attract 50,000 contestants in 50 countries during the preliminary stage.
“We are very proud to launch this project in Kenya this year and hope to make it into another flagship program in the nurturing of ICT talents besides the Seeds for the Future program which is in its 5th year, and we strive to make the ICT competition an integral part of the local ICT ecosystem,” said Suky Su.
Ms. Su informed that the registration will continue until early Septemberand encourages more students to be involved in it. She informed that registration will be targeting UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI, KENYATTA UNIVERSITY, DAYSTAR UNIVERSITY, AFRICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY, CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF EAST AFRICA in the following days.
