Project Measures: The objective of the investments and of the programme is to ensure the provision of sufficient, hygienic, economically viable and affordable Water and Sanitation Services for the population of various satellite towns of Nairobi.

The programme focus is on urban and peri-urban areas, within the area of jurisdiction of Athi Water Services Board (Athi WSB) and Tanathi Water Services Board. The programme investments concern the rehabilitation, and where feasible the extension of water production and distribution facilities as well as sanitation facilities in the various towns. Emphasis of the programme is to link public water and sanitation infrastructure investments to urban development within the programme area. Project measures are funded by the German Government.


Requested Services: AWSB seeks support from a Study Consultant, who shall assist in preparing related investment measures. A stepwise approach is intended. In the first study phase, available information for the entire programme area, which includes all satellite towns of Nairobi shall be collated, assessed and analysed. In coordination with AWSB and the financer (KfW), suitable selection and prioritisation criteria shall be established in order to identify meaningful project investments.


After the finalisation of this initial study phase and the agreement on priority investments, a feasibility study shall be prepared for these investments, which provide the required information for the project financier to appraise the project.


The prequalification of experienced Consultants is subject to the regulations contained in the Guidelines for Assignment of Consultants in Financial Co-operation Projects”(see The contract will be awarded to an independent Consultant firm with proven experience in carrying out feasibility studies in the water supply and sanitation sector and the region and a minimum annual turnover of 1.200.000 €.
