CMC …affirms bid to capture 20% motor market share in two years

Motor Vehicle solutions provider CMC Motors, has announced major plans to enhance its presence in the local construction equipment market.


In a strategic effort to further diversify and grow its revenue streams, CMC Motors, a member of the Al Futtaim Group, which is also the local Case Construction Equipment authorized dealer, will be focusing on delivering new generation equipment to players in the local building and construction sector.

At the same time, the government has confirmed plans to ensure that international contractors undertaking projects locally adhere to the 30% local content rule by sourcing their equipment from local dealers to spur growth for local motor dealers.

Speaking during the launch of the Case 570T backhoe loader and the Case 1107 DX Tandem Soil Compactor, Ministry Of Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Eng. Michael Kamau, said the adherence to local content sourcing will apply on all contracts relating to the proposed 10,000km upgrade of roads to bitumen standards.

“My ministry, is committed to support and encourage contractors to source their machines from local dealers in line with the government 30% local content policy,” he said.

CMC Motors Managing Director Mr. Solomon Muturi, confirmed that the firm will be angling to retain a significant share of the local and regional building construction equipment sales revenues.

The firm, he added has already invested in the technical facilities and the training of its local technicians to guarantee its capacity to serve the specialist market.

“At CMC, we are excited at the growth prospects presented by the massive infrastructure developments locally and in the region and we are actively exploring opportunities to be the mechanized equipment supplier of choice,” Muturi said. “The launch of the two machines, confirms that we are investing heavily in providing a sales and service platform for CASE Construction Equipment,” He added.

While echoing Muturi’s comments, CMC Motors Group CEO Mr. Mark Kass confirmed that the Al Futtaim Group is setting out to reclaim CMC’s glory and is targeting a 20% market share in the next two years.

The Al Futtaim Group, Kass said will use Kenya as its regional expansion launch pad with plans to expand its business to Rwanda and South Sudan. 

“The Al Futtaim Group is committed to reclaiming CMC’s lost market share by investing in all facets of the business and we are looking forward to positive times ahead,” Kass said. “We are ready to change the game and the launch of an extended range of CASE Construction Equipment confirms this commitment,” He added.

By launching the two models in the local market, CMC motors will be seeking to win over customers looking for productivity, versatility and fast Return on Investment from their construction machines.

Designed as an entry level machine, the new 570T backhoe loader features a turbo charged engine and has been designed for premium digging and lifting performance.

On the other end, the Case 1107 DX Vibratory Soil Compactor the 1107 DX takes operator comfort and safety to new levels, while delivering a reliable performance with excellent fuel efficiency. 

Globally, Case Construction Equipment continue to maintain a market leadership slot. On innovation and pioneering trends, Case’s rich history can be traced to the late 50’s.
