Following the signing of the National Construction Authority Act, 2001 into law by President Mwai Kibaki in December 2011, the Minister for Public Works, Christopher Obure on 29th May appointed Kennedy Onditi as the Chairperson of the Board of the National Construction Authority (NCA) on a Gazette notice no.7264.
In another Gazette notice no. 7265,the minister also appointed the Board members of the authority as listed under: Kennedy Onditi,Moses N. Muihia,Irene Cheptoo Keino,Isabella Njeri Wachira,Joseph Schwartzman,Judith Sijeny,Henry Songole Amaje,Mike Ptoo Parklea and Innocent Obiri Momanyi.
The board will give the Ministry the legal backing to deal with the rogue contractors and help curb shoddy works that cost many lives as well as capital. NCA will oversee and co-ordinate development of the construction industry.
It will promote the development of the industry, register contractors, standardize and improve construction techniques and materials; and accredit skilled construction workers and construction site supervisors. The authority will also accredit and register contractors – both local and foreign – across the country.
The board whose effect started from 8th June this year will serve for a period of three years.
