The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Kenya’s manufacturing sector by convening a tripartite meeting aimed at harmonizing engineering standards. The meeting brought together key players from regulatory, industrial, and technical fronts to deliberate on aligning practices with national and global benchmarks.
High-Level Representation
The session was attended by Eng. Margaret N. Ogai, Registrar/CEO of EBK; Mr. George Makateto, Acting Director/CEO of the Numerical Machining Complex (NMC); and Eng. Benedict Mutunga, Deputy Chief Engineer, Mechanical and Transport Directorate (MTD). Senior managers from EBK and MTD, alongside consulting engineers with extensive manufacturing expertise, also participated in the discussions.
Focus on Standards and Professional Excellence
The meeting focused on creating uniform engineering standards that will enhance quality, safety, and competitiveness in Kenya’s manufacturing sector. By harmonizing standards across different institutions and industry players, EBK seeks to eliminate duplication, strengthen compliance, and support industrial growth.
According to Eng. Ogai, the initiative is in line with EBK’s broader mandate of advancing engineering professionalism and aligning education and practice with global benchmarks. She emphasized that the manufacturing sector — a key pillar of Kenya’s economic blueprint — requires engineers who are not only highly skilled but also guided by consistent standards that meet international expectations.

The Numerical Machining Complex (NMC) and the Mechanical and Transport Directorate (MTD) play a central role in supporting Kenya’s industrialization agenda through mechanical engineering, transport systems, and advanced manufacturing solutions. The collaboration with EBK is expected to:
