Industrial development Master plan for all counties coming soon;Mr. Mohamed

The Government has pledged to play a key role in the development of county-based Industrial enterprises as part of the national industrialization goals. According to the Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Adan Mohamed, plans are already underway to formulate county specific industrial development master plans.

Such master plans, developed in conjunction with the respective County Government authorities, Mohamed said, will provide a roadmap to guide a county level “industrial renaissance” in coming weeks.

The County Industrial Development Master plans, he disclosed will focus on the respective county competitive strengths such as land availability, energy supply, raw materials and access to markets in order to achieve robust and sustainable plans.

Speaking at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) while addressing County Executive Committee members in charge of industry drawn from all the 47 counties, Mohamed noted that, such county level plans are critical in the overall national effort to attract investors in the industrial sector.

“The Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development is aggressively moving to facilitate an industrial renaissance across all the 47 counties through the on-going County Industrial Master Plans process,” Mohamed said.

He added that: “Such County Master Plans will identify ideal locations for industrial development, financing options and priorities based on local resources and energy supply considerations to support the short and long term industrial development agenda.”

He further noted the need to empower the SME sector with proper planning, including the provision of common manufacturing facilities, standardization and market access to enable the country achieve the desired economic transformation.

The Ministry, he assured will fast track the planning process to enable the counties to have interim plans as soon as possible.
