Members of the reconstituted Programme Accreditation Consultative Committee (PACC) set up by the Government in April this year to harmonize the accreditation of professional and technical programmes in institutions of higher learning held a meeting at Jogoo house and resolved to incorporate all the current 18 professional bodies apart from engineering and law courses which had earlier been affected.
During the meeting Chaired by the Director of Administration in the Ministry Mr. Salim Mola on behalf of the Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education Prof. Collette Suda, and the members nominated Mr. Evans Gatura from the Association of Professional Societies of East Africa (APSEA) as the committees Vice Chair.
The members also revised there terms of reference as follows:
1. To review policy on accreditation of professional programmes.
2. To recommend harmonization of all laws relating to the accreditation of professional and technical programmes in institutions of higher learning.
(i) To work closely with the institutions of higher learning so s to ensure that academic programmes re accredited by various professional bodies.
(ii) To ensue that universities work closely with industries when they are developing their academic programmes
3. To generate a matrix of issues to be addressed.
4. To plan for and prepare an agenda for Accreditation Conference after every two years.
5. To propose any relevant recommendation(s).
6. To carry out any other work incidental to the above.
During the meeting members resolved to form two groups, one to look into the policy issues and the other to look in the legal issues. The report is expected to be presented within three weeks.
The PACC members comprise representatives from the Engineers Registration Board, Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board, Architectural Association of Kenya, Council of Legal Education, Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians& technologist Board, Institute of Surveyors, Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Kenya Nutritionists Institute, Kenya Veterinary Board, Veterinary and Research Laboratories, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Chartered Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Public and Private universities, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service and the Commission for University Education.
