Sunyale Africa Company Ltd and China Kenya Solid State Lighting Technology Transfer centre were launched on April 24 2015 at the Boma hotel in Nairobi. Sunyale Africa is a company that deals in solar and LED technologies in Kenya in partnership with the Chinese.
“We will assemble and manufacture these solar and LEd products locally, train technicians and set up exhibitions in show rooms to show case cutting-edge technology in this area” Said Prof Maina Maringa one of the directors of Sunyale Africa Company ltd.
Prof. Maringa Maina, of the Technical University of Kenya, launched the solar energy company together with Prof. Wang Guo Hua from China, and Mr. Dang Song the latter who is also a director of the company. They have set up their manufacturing base in Mlolongo and are working toward Kenya Standards of Bureau (KEBs) certification.
During the Launch, various types of lighting systems were placed on display including; stand-alone plug and play indoor single and multiple lighting systems, Home Solar Generating Systems, Building Solar Generating Systems, outdoor lights, Street lights of 2.5m, 4.5m, 6 – 7m, and 10 – 12m height, 60 – 100 m illumination security lights operated by10m and 145 degrees range sensors.
Speaking at the function Eng. Joel Ngugi of KenGen noted, “Renewable energy like solar are the technologies of the future that will reduce the cost of power to consumers and we support them”.
China is the source of most off-grid lighting products available worldwide today. As such, the Chinese industry is one the main market players and will be a key partner to Kenya.
In order to strengthen its collaboration with Chinese manufacturers Sunyale set up the technology transfer centre to train and equip Kenyans and improve local capacity.
