Women make up only 10–12% of registered engineers in Kenya — but change is on the horizon.

“Be bold and show up,” urged Eng. Margaret Orgai, speaking to students at the University of Nairobi. “Thirty-five years ago, I never imagined I’d be the CEO of EBK — but here we are.”

Encouraging Signs

  • About 30% of engineering students are now female

  • EBK and universities are rolling out mentorship and empowerment programs

  • Women engineers are being encouraged to take leadership roles and become visible role models

The future of engineering depends on diversity, inclusivity, and equity — and women engineers are essential to driving Kenya’s innovation forward.
