THE owner of the building that collapsed in Roysambu on Thursday killing six people did not have construction compliance certificates,City Hall has said.Planning and Housing Executive Tom Odongo said yesterday that the developer was ordered to stop the construction in January after failing to provide approved plans.
He said, “surveillance of the site by our officers for a period of three to four weeks after the notice did actually confirm that works stopped, however the developer sneaked back and continued with the construction after city inspectorate officers were withdrawn to help in the on going audit of all buildings in the county.
Addressing the journalists in his office at City Hall, Odongo said the building is owned by Isaac Thendiu and Joice Thendiu.
The director of criminal investigation Ndegwa Muhoro has already ordered the developer,the architects and the City government inspectors to record a statement with detectives at the Kasarani police station.
In recent months several people have died in the city due to the collapse of buildings.
