The Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), Eng. Silas Kinoti, is currently attending the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference (GICC) taking place in Seoul, South Korea. The conference brings together policymakers, engineers, financiers, and development partners from across the globe to discuss strategies for building modern, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure.

Eng. Kinoti’s participation underscores Kenya’s commitment to strengthening Kenya–Korea partnerships in the field of road and transport infrastructure. Korea is globally recognized for its innovative, technology-driven urban road networks and smart transport solutions, and Kenya stands to gain significantly from knowledge exchange, joint ventures, and possible financing collaborations.

Speaking ahead of the conference, Eng. Kinoti noted that Kenya is working to expand and modernize its urban road systems in line with the country’s Vision 2030 goals and the government’s urban renewal agenda. “Our priority is to develop safer, smarter, and more resilient transport networks that can support economic growth, reduce congestion, and enhance the quality of life for Kenyans,” he said.

The GICC, organized annually by Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, provides a platform for bilateral and multilateral discussions on infrastructure development. For Kenya, the conference offers an opportunity to explore new financing models, advanced construction technologies, and digital innovations such as intelligent transport systems (ITS) that can be applied to ongoing and future projects.

Eng. Kinoti’s mission is also aligned with Kenya’s broader agenda of attracting foreign direct investment in infrastructure, while fostering technology transfer and capacity building for local engineers and contractors. Strengthened ties with Korea are expected to accelerate projects aimed at easing mobility in major urban centers such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret, where road networks play a critical role in economic productivity.

As urbanization in Kenya continues to grow, building transport systems that are sustainable, safe, and adaptable to future demands will be vital. Eng. Kinoti’s participation at GICC signals KURA’s readiness to position Kenya as a regional leader in innovative road development.
