Prominent Engineer gets Presidential Commendation

His Excellency the President Uhuru Kenyatta has awarded Eng. Richard Kipng’etich Chepkwony the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) in recognition of the distinguished and outstanding services he has rendered to the nation. Eng. Chepkwony, who has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), is among those who were awarded by his Excellency, President Uhuru Kenyatta during the 2016 Jamhuri day celebrations.

Eng. Chepkwony is a long serving, very well-known Practicing Civil and Structural Engineer in Nairobi who started his career in 1972 by joining the Ministry of Public Works. After rising through its ranks he left in 2005 to join the academia where he worked at the University of Nairobi (UoN) up to 2012. He is serving his second term as Chairman of KeRRA efficiently overseeing the many roads projects being rolled out during his tenure.

He has a very strong anti corruption stance and is committed to community development. He has been involved in a number of social activities especially in Kericho and Bomet counties geared towards uplifting the living standard of the people. He has been instrumental in the development of infrastructure in a number of schools as well as assisting less fortunate children from poor families who secure admission to universities and secondary schools to raise schools fees. He is currently serving as the Chairman of Board of management of two secondary schools in Kericho County. He is also assisting others through the provision of technical assistance both in design and supervision of their infrastructural projects. He has also played a major role in community projects such as Kipkelion cooling plant, Kipkelion coffee mills in Fortenan Kericho County, Siongiroi milk cooling plant in Bomet County among many others.

Eng. Chepkwony is a distinguished member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) being the longest serving honorary treasurer at the Institution. He is currently; a member of the Council of IEK, an executive member of Eastern Africa Federation of Engineering Organization (EAFEO) and a former Honorary Treasurer of the Federation of Engineering Organizations headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria.
