The Cabinet Secretary for Water and Irrigation Eugene Wamalwa on Tuesday witnessed the signing of key contracts on Implementation Support Consultant (ISC) for design and supervision for Lower Nzoia Irrigation Projects Phase 1 and Improvement of Nzoia River Flood Mitigation Structures (Dykes) and design and supervision consultancy for Mwache Dam.The total cost for Lower Nzoia Irrigation and Improvement of Nzoia Dykes is Ksh10.3 billion. Mwache Dam will cost Ksh17 billion secured from IDA/World Bank AfD of France and Government of South Korea. 

The consultants for the two projects are Lahmeyer International of Germany with Quadrant Engineering Consultants of Kenya. Mwache Dam is handled by Nippon Koei in association with Mangat IB Patel of Kenya and AF-Consult of Switzerland.

“The Mwache Dam site is located across River Mwache at Fulugani village, Kwale County and will provide water to Mombasa and a proposed irrigation component in Kwale of about 5,000 hactares adjacent to the dam” said CS Wamalwa.
