Tender Details
1.0 Background Information: The Government of the Republic of Kenya intends to develop the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor, which is one of the key flagship projects identified in the Kenyas Vision 2030. The LAPSSET Corridor comprising seven components (Port, highway, railway, oil pipeline, oil refinery, airports and resort cities) will link the envisaged Port of Lamu with Ethiopia and South Sudan through the Eastern and Northern parts of Kenya. As a first phase of the Lamu Port Project, the Government plans to construct the first three (3) berths with associated infrastructure at Manda Bay in Lamu. Kenya Ports Authority, a State Corporation under Ministry of Transport, will be the implementing Agency for the Lamu Port Project. The Government of the Republic of Kenya through Kenya Ports Authority now invites eligible construction firms for Prequalification to undertake construction and dredging/reclamation works
2.0 Scope of Work: These will include but will not be limited to: Contract Package Works/ items to be procured Berths and One General Cargo Berth, One Container Berth and one Bulk Berth, all to Depths of 18.5m below datum. Associated structures Hard standing yards Hard standing yard on reclaimed yard on total area of approximately 113 Ha. and Buildings Administration Area Terminal Buildings, transit shed and customs warehouse, workshops, gate houses and welfare facilities and Administration for workers and port users including water reticulation, a sewerage system and disposal. Buildings Cause way Construction of internal roads within the Port Area, including embankment of a 1.5km for the cause way Small Crafts yard Slipways, workshops and administration offices. Dredging and Dredging in the basin and along the quay to 18.5m below chart datum. Land Reclamation Associated Water supply, storage and reticulation; electrical power distribution, data and communication Infrastructure networking within the port area.

4.0 The request must clearly state Request for Prequalification Documents:

The prequalification documents are available for a non-refundable fee of Kshs 5,000 in cash or Bankers Cheque payable to Kenya Ports Authority. The Employer will promptly dispatch the documents by registered airmail, but under no circumstances will it be held responsible for late delivery or loss of the documents so mailed.
5.0 Submission of applications for prequalification must be received in sealed envelopes, and either delivered by hand or by registered mail and addressed as indicated in 3.0 above. Bulky tenders should be delivered to the office of the Head of Procurement and Supplies located at the 4th Floor Block III (Finance Block), Door No. -3.4.3 KPA Kipevu Headquarters Mombasa. Alternatively, completed tenders may be deposited at Tender Box No.7 located at the BUS TERMINUS, PORT MAIN PEDESTRIAN GATE NO. 8, KILINDINI, (DOCKS) MOMBASA not later than 1000hrs on Thursday , 27th September, 2012 and be clearly marked: TENDER NO. 6.0 The Employer reserves the right to accept or reject late applications.
7.0 The Applications for Prequalification, submitted in compliance with the requirements in the issued Prequalification Documents and before the deadline for submission, shall be publicly opened Tenders will be opened immediately thereafter in the presence of the candidates or their representatives who choose to attend at the Bandari College Amphitheatre, Kenya Ports Authority, Mombasa.
8.0 Applicants will be advised, in due course, of the results of their applications, only firms and joint ventures prequalified under this procedure will be invited to bid.
