GOK/KfW ROADS2000 WESTERN KENYA PROGRAMME

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR STUDY OF COMMUNITY MAINTENANCE OF PATHS, TRACKS AND ROADS IN WESTERN KENYA

The Government of Kenya has received a Loan and Financial Contribution from the Government of Germany through KfW (German Development Bank) towards the cost of the Programme for Improvement of Rural Roads and Market Infrastructure in Western Kenya in the Counties of Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma and Vihiga, and intends to use part of these funds for a study of the feasibility and sustainability of community participation in the maintenance of paths, tracks and roads under their responsibility. Kenya Rural Roads Authority will be the Implementing Agency.

 

Kenya Rural Roads Authority invites proposals from reputable firms for consultancy services for the following assignment:

Collect basic data within selected communities in Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma and Vihiga Counties on the extent of paths, tracks, roads to be improved, experience in community maintenance and available resources (funds, tools, materials etc.) to undertake the works;

Assess the viability of the communities to undertake such works on a sustainable basis including the attitudes of community groups, local leaders and county government, and utilizing questionnaires for families and community leaders;

Assess the training needs of community persons and county government in undertaking community road maintenance and mobilizing and managing the funds required.

The closing and opening date for the request for proposal is on 24th June, 2015 at 12.00 Noon and 12.15 respectively.
